The Essex County Clerk is lead by Patrick J. McNally. The County Clerk office offers many services
such as Election Services, Passport Services, Records Services, Identification Services, and
Registration Services. The Clerk's Office makes election results available to the public and
residents may apply for an absentee ballot if they are a qualified and registered voter by
written application to the County Clerk's Office.
Residents may apply for New and renewal Passports at the County Clerk's office. Passports
take approximately six weeks before they are received. Expedited Passports services are
available as well. This can reduce the waiting time from 6 weeks to 14 days. They may also
file their Business Trade Name by picking up an application in the Clerk’s Office and
submitting four notarized original copies of the application via mail or in person. Churches
and religious corporations may also register at the office. Individuals who wish to become a
Notary Public may obtain an application from the County Clerk's Office.
