Essex County Judiciary Superior Court of New Jersey is also known as Essex Vicinage. The Court is located in downtown Newark in three separate buildings and serves the 765,348 citizens of Essex County living in 22 municipalities. Essex is the largest and busiest trial court in New Jersey with a complement of nearly 60 judges and about 1,100 staff. Fiscal year 1997 appropriations for the vicinage were $36.3 million. The prime responsibility of the vicinage is the overall operation of the Civil, Criminal and Family Courts, the Probation Services Unit and a Field Operations section.
Essex County Court is comprised of the following 7 divisions: Civil Division, Criminal Division, Municipal Division, Family Division, General Equity, and Probation Division.
